The Word about Winn Reading keeps spreading!
This summer has been busy with many activities - including our summer reading program…see below for recent stories appearing in our local media market and our recent addition of a new Program Coordinator
Cincinnati Kids Keep Reading All Summer
Spectrum News followed a Cincinnati family making the most of summer break — keeping their kids reading so they hold onto the skills they built all school year. Their children are part of Winn Reading's summer sessions, where one-on-one time at the library helps young readers beat the "summer slide" and head into fall stronger. $10,000 Grant Boosts Cincinnati Literacy
WCPO 9 spotlighted Winn Reading's work in a city where fewer than six in 10 third graders read at grade level. A $10,000 grant from the Scripps Howard Fund and WCPO 9 is helping us put more decodable books in kids' hands, train and background-check our mentors, and expand reading support across our partner schools. Laura Wilson joins Winn Reading as a Program Coordinator
Winn Reading is pleased to welcome Laura Wilson as our new part-time Program Operations Coordinator, who will keep our literacy mentoring program running smoothly by supporting our volunteer mentors, coordinating with our partner schools, and maintaining the program data behind our work. This role strengthens the day-to-day foundation of Winn Reading, freeing our Founder to focus on partnerships and long-term growth so we can reach even more young readers in Cincinnati.

Winn Reading started the New Year with some wonderful news:
Winn Reading was awarded a $25,000 grant from Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) to support our literacy work with students across Cincinnati.
This support will help us continue and strengthen our efforts to provide one-on-one reading mentorship and literacy resources for children at Mt. Washington School, Sands Montessori and Rothenberg Academy. It will also enable us to continue growing our summer literacy program. And ultimately, it is a meaningful affirmation of the work our mentors, staff and supporters make possible every day!
GCF connects generous people with trusted nonprofits to create a vibrant tri-state region where every person has a fair opportunity to thrive. We are thankful to be part of that shared commitment to our community.
Thank you for believing in Winn Reading and for being part of a nonprofit that continues to show up for children learning to read. We are excited about what this support will allow us to do next. Wishing you all a wonderful start to 2026.
With gratitude,
Kay
